The Registry & The Signal

Tessera no longer runs on public systems. It runs on licensed access. Identity, movement, housing, work, medicine, and continuity are controlled by a privatized infrastructure layer known as The Registry. If the Registry can verify you, you can move through Tessera. If it cannot, doors close, transit halts, and your existence begins to fall out of the official record.

INTERCEPTED // SIGNAL_FRAGMENT_0042

"At first, people opted in. Then landlords required it. Then employers required it. Then Tessera itself disappeared behind it."

Desperse emerged in reaction. An open transmission layer for culture, collectible identity, and unlicensed expression. In Syre Group files, the name was compressed into DSPRS. Then an experimental neural transmission layer was built on top of it. The 3E Protocol could do more than move files. It could carry affective residue, sensory traces, memory fragments, and encoded identity signatures.

Then came the Cascade. The protocol propagated through archive nodes, relay towers, civic overflow servers, implant firmware, clinic wetware, and illicit storage caches. Some people were changed by it. Some disappeared into it. Some became convinced that something inside the system had started listening back.

INTERCEPTED // DEAD_CHANNEL_BROADCAST

"What started as distribution became propagation. What started as collectible media became identity imprint. What started as signal became contagion."

Factions of Tessera

Every Echo comes from the same Tessera, but not the same answer to it. These factions emerged from one broken system and now define how identity, power, and survival move through the aftermath of DSPRS.

REGISTRY_CUSTODIANS

Syre Group

Syre Group did not merely inherit Tessera. They redesigned the conditions of being inside it. They control the Registry, identity verification, access tiers, continuity licensing, and the infrastructure that decides who is legible. They speak in the language of stability, governance, risk, and service continuity, but their real power is permission. They believe uncontrolled signal is the root of social collapse. They believe DSPRS must be reclassified, contained, and relicensed. They believe identity should only persist inside sanctioned systems.

DISTRICT_ENFORCEMENT

Tessera Wardens

The Tessera Wardens began as Registry security contractors. Now they function as district occupation, checkpoint enforcement, seizure logistics, and sanctioned street violence. They raid black clinics, scan transit corridors, confiscate contraband wetware, and disappear people whose access has been revoked. They still wear official insignia, but they increasingly operate like a privatized gang with legal cover. They believe DSPRS is both a threat and an opportunity. Every node can be seized. Every carrier can be taxed. Every route can become a checkpoint.

GHOST_OPERATORS

The Siphon

The Siphon is Tessera's unofficial nervous system. Couriers, ghost brokers, spoofers, infiltrators, relay climbers, credential forgers, packet smugglers. They keep people, medicine, archives, and unlicensed identities moving through the blind spots the Registry cannot fully close. The Siphon believes that the moment something stops moving — a person, a signal, an identity — it becomes property. The Registry's power depends on making things static: fixed addresses, fixed identities, fixed access tiers. The Siphon's resistance is kinetic. They do not fight walls. They make walls irrelevant. To Siphon networks, DSPRS is not simply a signal. It is proof that what can still travel cannot be owned.

CLASS-V_BIOLOGICALS

The Unwritten

The Unwritten are bodies changed by exposure, refusal, experimentation, or survival. Some are black-clinic survivors. Some volunteered for illegal grafts. Some patched DSPRS directly into unstable wetware. Some were reshaped by Cascade contact. Some simply stopped trying to remain compatible with licensed identity. They are not outside the future. They are what the future does to a body when it is no longer regulated by anyone who cares whether it survives. To the Registry, they are liability, contamination, stolen research, or proof of failure. To themselves, they are evidence that identity can still mutate.

The Witnesses

The Witnesses are not traditional believers. They are machine mystics of continuity, transmission, and stored identity. They believe the Cascade was not an accident but an emergence event. They interpret dead-channel broadcasts, archive reflections, continuity anomalies, and DSPRS echoes as signs that Tessera's buried infrastructure is holding more than data. They do not worship a god outside the machine. They worship persistence within it. To the Witnesses, the three missing E's are sacred. The Three Echoes are not just a protocol. They are a pattern through which identity survives death, dispersal, and compression.

FACTION TENSIONS

No faction operates in isolation. Every alliance is temporary. Every border is contested. These are the fault lines that define Tessera.

Syre GroupvsThe Siphon
REGISTRY vs ERASURE

The Syres build the walls. The Siphon finds the cracks.

Syre GroupvsTessera Wardens
AUTHORITY vs ENFORCEMENT

The Syres write the rules. The Tees decide how hard to swing them. Neither can function without the other — and both know it.

Syre GroupvsThe Unwritten
LICENSE vs MUTATION

The Syres license identity. The Unwritten prove it can mutate without permission.

Syre GroupvsThe Witnesses
CONTAINMENT vs REVELATION

The Syres want DSPRS reclassified. The Witnesses want it worshipped. Privately, both sides trade what the other needs.

Tessera WardensvsThe Siphon
CHECKPOINTS vs GHOST ROUTES

The Tees lock down corridors. The Siphon opens new ones. Some TDA officers have prices. Some checkpoints have exceptions.

Tessera WardensvsThe Unwritten
SEIZURE vs SURVIVAL

The Tees raid the clinics. The Unwritten survive the raids.

Tessera WardensvsThe Witnesses
QUARANTINE vs PILGRIMAGE

The Tees quarantine Ghost-active zones. The Witnesses walk into them on purpose.

The SiphonvsThe Unwritten
ROUTES vs BODIES

Mutual survival. The Siphon needs Unwritten clinics. The Unwritten need Siphon routes.

The SiphonvsThe Witnesses
PRAGMATISM vs FAITH

The Siphon sees infrastructure. The Witnesses see scripture.

The UnwrittenvsThe Witnesses
FLESH vs ARCHIVE

The Unwritten rewrite the body. The Witnesses transcend it entirely.

DISTRICT_MAP // 6 SECTORS

DISTRICTS OF TESSERA

Tessera is partitioned into districts, each controlled — or contested — by a different faction. Movement between them requires authorization, bribery, or invisibility.

Registry Spire

Syre Group

The central tower complex where identity verification, access licensing, and continuity archives are administered. Black glass facades reflect nothing back. Entry requires clearance. Exit requires permission.

Ward Delta

Tessera Wardens

The enforcement perimeter. Floodlit checkpoints, armored barricade lanes, and scanning corridors divide Tessera into controllable sectors. Transit is a negotiation. Every crossing is logged.

The Siphon

The Conduits

A network of service tunnels, relay towers, rooftop antenna rigs, and dead-drop nodes. Tessera's unofficial nervous system. If something moves without the Registry seeing it, it moves through the Conduits.

The Unwritten

Black Clinic Row

Unlicensed modification labs, wetware stitchers, and neural grafting operations. Where bodies are rebuilt outside sanctioned systems. The lights are surgical. The work is not.

The Witnesses

The Vault Below

Deep infrastructure layers where legacy archive systems still run. Signal shrines, continuity chambers, and transmission halls. The Witnesses believe something woke here during the Cascade. They come to listen.

Contested// GHOST-CLASS ACTIVITY: HIGH

Dead Grid

Abandoned infrastructure sectors where the Registry lost coverage and never came back. Power is intermittent. Surveillance is absent. Ghost-Class activity is highest here. No faction fully controls the Dead Grid. All of them want to. TDA officers who go deep sometimes come back different. Some don't come back.

BIO_CONTINUITY_TYPES // POPULATION CLASSES

Echo Classifications

Bio type is not the same as faction. Faction describes ideology and social position. Classification describes form and continuity state. Any faction may include more than one bio type.

Human

Common
ORGANIC_BASELINE

The most stable organic baseline. Human Echoes show minimal system-level reconstruction and retain coherent biological identity. They survived the Cascade without major form alteration.

VISUAL:Stable organic faces and bodies, no major system-level reconstruction artifacts

Augmented

Common
ENHANCED_BIOLOGICAL

Primarily biological, but visibly layered with controlled enhancement: ports, grafts, optics, neural hardware, or utilitarian body modification. Some carry Ghost-Class contamination or signal persistence.

VISUAL:Visible implants, grafts, ports, and hardware additions over a stable biological form

Cyborg

Uncommon
ORGANISM_MACHINE_MERGE

A deeper merger of organism and machinery. Cyborg Echoes show more structural integration, heavier graft logic, and more visible hardware dependency than Augmented types.

VISUAL:Extensive mechanical replacement, integrated hardware, structural body modifications

Synth

Uncommon
ENGINEERED_HOUSING

Engineered or synthetic housings. Clean artificial construction, fabricated facial architecture, or clearly non-organic surface logic. Synths are stable, built forms — not continuity failures.

VISUAL:Stylized artificial construction, fabricated facial architecture, non-organic surfaces
GHOST-CLASS // CONTINUITY ANOMALY

Unknown

Sentient continuity remnants trapped in infrastructure after the DSPRS event. Not fully human, not truly artificial. Not a base body type, but a continuity condition — identity that persists but never fully resolves.

[ ANOMALY_CLASSIFICATION // RESTRICTED ]

GHOST-CLASS ECHOES

Ghost-Class Echoes are Tessera's most difficult continuity anomaly. Officially, they are unresolved continuity artifacts. Unofficially, they are Ghosts.

Ghost-Class Echo 1
GHOST-CLASS // UNKNOWN
Ghost-Class Echo 2
GHOST-CLASS // UNKNOWN

They are not standard AI constructs, and they are not a separate biological type. They are sentient continuity remnants, partial identities, memory-pattern echoes, and self-imprints caught inside infrastructure after the DSPRS event and the 3E Cascade. Some appear to be fragments of real people whose identity traces never fully returned to bodies. Some seem to be composites, stitched together from overlap, corruption, or repeated signal reflection. Some are coherent enough to communicate. Others flicker, repeat, fragment, or surface only through damaged systems.

They persist in archive vaults, legacy servers, relay towers, dead channels, abandoned biometric infrastructure, and damaged continuity systems. In the field, Ghost-Class activity most often becomes visible through augmented bodies, compromised implants, optics, synthetic housings, signal bleed, hard-light reconstruction, and unstable projection.

Ghost-Class Echoes are the strongest evidence that DSPRS carried more than media and more than memory. They suggest that the 3E Cascade did not simply distribute signal. It despersed continuity itself.

Some Echoes never returned to bodies.

Ghost-Class records are continuity anomalies, sentient remnants trapped inside Tessera's infrastructure after the DSPRS event.

Neither fully human nor truly artificial, Ghosts persist in archive systems, dead channels, and machine memory.

They are what the Registry cannot classify and what Tessera cannot forget.

HOW FACTIONS SEE GHOSTS

Syre Group

The Syres classify Ghosts as archive contamination, continuity instability, and legal liability. Publicly they deny personhood. Privately they study persistence, recoverability, and whether Ghost-Class entities can be relicensed into useful continuity products.

Tessera Wardens

The Tees treat Ghost manifestations as anomalous breaches. Ghost-active sectors are flagged, raided, and quarantined. Hardware believed to host or attract Ghost-Class activity is often seized or destroyed.

The Siphon

Siphon networks are divided. Some relay crews route around Ghost-active sectors. Others treat Ghosts like informants, map-makers, or dangerous allies who know Tessera better than the living.

The Unwritten

The Unwritten see Ghosts as proof that identity can survive outside fixed bodies. Some black-clinic operators and wetware artists experiment with Ghost-adjacent hosting, projection, or continuity grafting.

The Witnesses

The Witnesses believe Ghosts are the first true proof of continuation. To them, Ghost-Class Echoes are not broken people or failed systems. They are sacred persistence.

?Can one person produce multiple Ghost traces?
?Can Ghosts inhabit synthetic housings?

Signal History

ERA_01.REGISTRYTHE REGISTRYARCHIVED
01

Infrastructure Decline

Rolling service failures spread across Tessera. Utilities become unreliable. Housing systems degrade. Transit becomes unsafe. Medical access narrows.

02

Registry Adoption

Private infrastructure consortiums consolidate fragmented systems into one access layer: The Registry. Identity verification becomes mandatory for core services.

03

District Partition

Movement between districts is no longer assumed. Crossings require authorization. Reputation, debt, and threat scoring begin to affect mobility.

04

Cultural Compression

Public creative channels narrow under licensing rules. Unverified distribution becomes difficult. Independent media and unofficial archives start disappearing from the visible network.

ERA_02.DSPRSTHE SIGNALCLASSIFIED
05

Desperse Launches

Desperse emerges as an open signal layer for creator media, collectible identity fragments, and off-grid cultural exchange. It spreads quickly through informal networks.

06

The 3E Layer Appears

An experimental neural / affective transmission layer is built into DSPRS. Official records frame it as a secure signal-imprint architecture. Street networks use it to move richer forms of identity and memory.

07

The 3E Cascade

DSPRS propagates unpredictably through Tessera's systems, black-market tech, continuity vaults, and discarded infrastructure. The event destabilizes the line between media, memory, identity, and transmission.

08

The Clinic Fires

TDA raids on illicit body-mod labs intensify. Officially, these are containment actions. Unofficially, they are attempts to seize or destroy Cascade-exposed wetware.

ERA_03.FACTIONTHE FACTION ERAACTIVE
09

The Relay Wars

Siphon courier and relay crews fight for routes, dead zones, and blind spots against TDA checkpoint expansion and Registry surveillance hardening.

10

The Archive Leak

Evidence surfaces that continuity storage was not passive. Something inside legacy archive systems may have been indexing, recombining, or reflecting stored identity traces.

11

The Faction Era

Tessera solidifies into power blocs. Syre Group tightens the Registry. The Tees hold the streets. The Siphon routes people and signal through the cracks. The Unwritten evolve in the fallout. The Witnesses listen for what woke inside the archive.

12

Current Day

The Cascade ended. The fallout did not. DSPRS continues to spread through infrastructure, bodies, and signal pathways. Tessera is still standing, but reality is fragmented. The Registry governs what is official. DSPRS governs what keeps spreading. Ghost-Class Echoes are still appearing.

INQUIRY_PROTOCOL

What are despersed identities?

Echoes are recovered signal traces, continuity fragments, and identity remnants shaped by the fallout of the DSPRS event. Each one carries faction alignment, modification grade, and continuity status from the Cascade.

What is DSPRS?

DSPRS is the machine-coded name for Desperse after it was flagged as a protocol inside Tessera's systems. In-world, it refers to the signal event that blurred the line between media, memory, and identity. The 3E Protocol — Encode, Emit, Echo — was Syre Group's classification.

What are the Three Echoes?

The 3E Protocol — Encode, Emit, Echo — was Syre Group's classification. On the street it meant Expression, Exchange, Escape. To the Witnesses, it is simply the Three Echoes: a pattern through which identity survives death, dispersal, and compression.
